HC Deb 20 December 1927 vol 212 c221
57. Mr. GRACE

asked the hon. Member for Monmouth, as representing the Forestry Commissioners, if, in view of the public feeling that has been aroused in Cheshire, he will reconsider the preservation of the ancient oak trees in Delamere Forest which are now being cut down?

Sir LEOLIN FORESTIER-WALKER (Forestry Commissioner)

Practically all the good oaks in Delamere Forest were felled many years ago. Of the remaining trees, all of which are of very indifferent growth, not 1 per cent. is sound, while many are dead and dying. In felling for replanting, amenity belts are left on the roadside wherever the oaks are good enough to stand. Forestry operations at Delamere give employment to 50 to 100 persons, according to the season of the year.
