§ 5. Mr. LANSBURYasked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether it is proposed to institute an inquiry into the allegations of fraud which have been published in connection with the construction works at Vizagapatam Harbour, connected with the railway company?
§ Earl WINTERTONNo allegations of fraud have come to my knowledge. The Bengal-Nagpur Railway Company are not responsible for the construction works at Vizagapatam.
§ Mr. LANSBURYIf I give the Noble Lord the information on which this question is based, will he have inquiry made?
§ Earl WINTERTONI know something about the incident on which the question is based. But I think the hon. Member's question is based on a misapprehension. The Government, not the railway company, dispensed with the services of an official on the ground that he had sanctioned an excessive price for the purchase of land, but no allegation of fraud was made against him, and as his services have now been dispensed with, I imagine that the hon. Member and the House will probably not feel any further interest in the matter.
