HC Deb 19 December 1927 vol 212 cc28-9
57. Lieut.-Colonel SPENDER-CLAY

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that the new quarterly season ticket rate, third class, from London to Tunbridge Wells, is £9 1s. 3d., not available at intermediate stations; that the present rate is £8 12s. 6d.; that the rate for ordinary season tickets specified in the schedule to the award of the Railway Rates Tribunal (S.R.O. 851) for the Southern Railway Company for the distance to Tunbridge Wells, viz., 35 miles, is £7 12s. 1d.; and that the new rate to Reading, 36 miles, published by the Great Western Railway Company, is £7 15s. for ordinary tickets and £7 5s. for tickets not available at intermediate stations; and whether, in view of the discrepancy between the rate announced for Tunbridge Wells and those specified in the award of the tribunal or charged for Reading, respectively, he will inquire into the matter?

Colonel ASHLEY

I am in communication with the railway company concerned in regard to my hon. and gallant Friend's question and will communicate with him upon receipt of the company's reply.

Mr. HERBERT WILLIAMS

Has the right hon. Gentleman made any suggestions?

Colonel ASHLEY

I have simply drawn the attention of the company to the facts contained in my hon. Friend's question.
