HC Deb 19 December 1927 vol 212 cc4-5
11. Mr. GROVES

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether it is the intention of the Government to institute an inquiry into the relationship between the Indian States and the paramount power; whether he is in a position to state the personnel of this Committee and the terms of reference of the inquiry; whether the cost involved will fall on Indian revenues; and whether it is proposed that this Committee should confer with the Indian Statutory Commission on questions arising out of the Government of India, Act involving the rights of the Indian Princes?

Earl WINTERTON

As regards the first two parts of the question, the hon. Member will no doubt have seen the announcement that has been made since the question was put down. The answer to the third part is in the affirmative. The procedure suggested in the last part of the question is not at present contemplated, but it is anticipated that the results of the Committee's inquiry will be available before the Statutory Commission reports.
