HC Deb 13 April 1927 vol 205 cc344-5
3. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether His Majesty's Minister in Moscow has received any communication from the Government of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics as to why ex-fireman David Scott was deported from Russia; and, if so, whether His Majesty's Government intend publishing such statement for the information of Members?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

His Majesty's Chargé d'Affaires, who is now in England, states that the Soviet Government made it clear that the charge upon which Scott was deported as an undesirable alien was that of agitation against the Soviet Government.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Are we taking any further steps in the case of this British subject?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

No, Sir.

Mr. WALLHEAD

Is it a fact that the report included the statement that this man was deported as a distributor of illicit drugs?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

No, Sir. The Soviet Government made it clear to His Majesty's Chargé d'Affaires that the charge upon which he was deported was that of agitation against the Soviet Government.
