HC Deb 07 April 1927 vol 204 c2242
18. Dr. VERNON DAVIES

asked the President of the Board of Education if he is aware that 15 clerks are employed by the Lancashire education authority as secretaries to their school medical officers with travelling and subsistence expenses whilst engaged upon their duties; and whether, seeing that in the case of other education authorities these duties are performed by the medical officers them selves, he will, in the interest of economy, arrange that the entire cost involved in this practice of the Lancashire authority shall not be included in the Government grant?

Lord E. PERCY

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the second part, if my hon. Friend will refer to my reply of the 24th March last, he will see that he is mistaken in suggesting that in other similar areas these duties are performed by the medical officers themselves.
