HC Deb 04 April 1927 vol 204 cc1670-1
27. Sir ROBERT HAMILTON

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the different countries to which the cotton grown in Uganda was exported in the last completed year for which figures are available, and the percentages taken by each country?

Mr. AMERY

It is impossible to separate the destination of cotton grown in Uganda from the comparatively small quantity grown in Kenya. Of the cotton exported from the two countries in 1925, 51 per cent, was consigned to Great Britain and 40 per cent. to India, most of the balance being divided between Germany, Italy, Spain and France. Oil the amount consigned to India rather more than a third was re-exported to Japan.
