HC Deb 04 April 1927 vol 204 cc1698-9
76. Mr. DALTON

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will state the attitude of the Japanese Government, as disclosed to His Majesty's Government, in relation to military, naval and diplomatic action in China?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

No, Sir. I can only refer the hon. Member to the published statements of the Japanese themselves.

Mr. DALTON

Are we justified in concluding from that the published statements recently appearing in the Press in this country accurately represent Japanese intentions?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

No, Sir. I can only refer the hon. Member to the statement of Japanese intentions made by the Japanese Ministers authorised by the Japanese Government, and in particular by the Foreign Minister, Baron Shidehara.

Mr. GARDNER

Am I to understand that there has been no reply to the representations made by the right hon. Gentleman?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

The hon. Member should not understand from my answers anything not contained in them.
