HC Deb 04 April 1927 vol 204 c1698
75. Mr. TREVELYAN

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs how many British citizens have been killed or wounded by mob or military violence at Shanghai, at Nanking, at Hankow, and throughout China, respectively, since 1st January last?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

My information on the subject is not complete. As regards Shanghai, military casualties amount to two officers wounded, one Indian killed, two Indians wounded, and seven British wounded. Three British subjects were killed at Nanking and two wounded. Particulars of casualties at Hankow were given in the reply returned to the hon. and gallant Member for Central Hull on 2nd March. I have received particulars of the wounding of two British subjects by mob violence at other places in China.
