HC Deb 04 April 1927 vol 204 c1681
48 Mr. ERNEST BROWN

asked the Prime Minister (1) if and when the Overseas Trade Department is to be wound up;

(2)if and when the Ministry of Transport is to be closed down;

(3)if and when the Department of Mines is to be wound up?

The PRIME MINISTER

I have no statement to make on this subject at the present time.

Mr. BROWN

Will the right hon. Gentleman have due regard to the Debate recently held in another place, and to the wide feeling on the Back Benches behind him?

Mr. H. WILLIAMS

Is my right hon. Friend aware that most of the commercial community find great advantage from the services of the Overseas Trade Department?

Captain GARR0-J0NES

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that as far as the Ministry of Transport is concerned, the London General Omnibus Company is quite prepared to take it over at any time?

The PRIME MINISTER

That will, no doubt, be debated during the progress of the Finance Bill, and the hon. Member who put the question down will be able to explain the difference between being wound-up and closed down.
