HC Deb 04 April 1927 vol 204 c1662
7. Mr. DUNNICO

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India the number of vacancies in the ranks of King's commissioned officers in the Indian Army open to British officers; and the reason for the shortage?

Earl WINTERTON

The Government of India have estimated the total number of vacancies occurring during 1926–27 at 118, and the intake at 56. In recent years the proportion of Sandhurst cadets who have chosen the Indian Army has fallen short of the pre-War figure, but the number of applicants for the Indian Army is improving.
