HC Deb 17 November 1926 vol 199 cc1831-2
12. Lieut.-Colonel Sir FREDERICK HALL

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, whether, seeing that the German Government have constructed fortified works at Konigsberg and Kustrin, which violate Article 180 of the Treaty of Versailles, any remonstrance has been made to Germany on the subject; and whether it is proposed to call for the dismantling of these works?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

The matter is at present under the consideration of the ex-Allied Governments and I am not yet in a position to make any statement on this question.

Sir F. HALL

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman if it is not the fact that these works have been constructed in such a manner as not to be detected by anyone except those with a knowledge of German military secrets, and will he consider bringing the matter before the Allied Conference at Versailles?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

I do not think my hon. and gallant Friend heard either part of my answer to his question. I will repeat it—the matter is at present under the consideration of the ex-Allied Governments, and I am not yet in a position to make any statement on this question.
