asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the total amount of gold or platinum imported into Great Britain from Russia during the present year?

Mr. McNEILL

The particulars of gold and platinum registered as imported into Great Britain and consigned from Russia during the three months ended 31st March, 1926, are as follow:

Gold bullion:

Refined in bars, 623,524 ozs. troy.

Platinum:

Refined, 70,882 ozs. troy.

Will the hon. Gentleman tell me the approximate cash value of the gold and platinum he has referred to?

Roughly speaking, rather over £2,500,000.
