HC Deb 03 May 1926 vol 195 c5
9. Sir F. HALL

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether, in view of the terms of their letter dated 1st April, 1926, to Messrs. Meik and Buchanan, the original engineers to the Bombay reclamation scheme, the India Office had any responsibility for the contract between that firm and the Bombay Government, and was it consulted before the contract was entered into?

Lord STANLEY

All contracts made by a Government in India are required by law to run in the name of the Secretary of State for India in Council. The particular contract referred to by my hon. and gallant Friend was negotiated, drawn up, and executed by the Government of Bombay, and the firm has been informed by my Noble Friend that the decision of any question relating to the determination of the contract rests with that Government.
