asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the number of persons in respect of whom Death Duties were paid from 1900 to 1925, stating separately the number of assessments from £500,000 to £1,000,000, and from £1,000,000 upwards

I would refer the hon. Member to the tables contained in the 54th, 64th and 67th Reports of the Commissioners of Inland Revenue, which give the information desired for the years up to and including 1923–24.

The numbers for the year 1924–25 are as follow:

Total number of estates upon which Estate Duty was paid 105,947
Estates between £500,000 and £1,000,000 29
Estates exceeding £1,000,000 13
