HC Deb 23 March 1926 vol 193 cc1039-40
81. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY (forMr. HORE-BELISHA)

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether pensioner petty officers and pensioner chief petty officers are now employed as such in naval ships and establishments; and, if so, whether they are borne additional to the authorised active-service establishment of the respective port divisions?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Mr. Davidson)

It has been customary to employ a small number of pensioners on Vote A, including pensioner chief petty officers and petty officers. These ratings are included in the port division numbers.

83. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY (for Mr. HORE-BELISHA)

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty, with regard to the pensioner petty officer and pensioner chief petty officer now employed as such in naval ships and establishments, if special arrangements are not in force, whether he will state what steps are being taken to avoid the infliction of hardship upon active-service ratings by a reduction in the flow of promotion?

Mr. DAVIDSON

It is not proposed to take any steps in the matter. The numbers involved are very small, and all suitable active-service ratings, on discharge to pension, have the same chance of filling these billets as vacancies occur.
