HC Deb 23 March 1926 vol 193 cc1031-2
69. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware of the small amount of business transacted at the King Edward Street branch office, Hessle Road town sub-office, and South Newington town sub-office, Hull, during the extended hour of opening from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.; that such business as is transacted, the bulk of which is the sale of stamps which could be obtained from automatic machines affixed to the office doors, does not warrant the expense involved in the offices remaining open for an extra hour; of the decision of the Hull City Council that it regards the extra hour of opening as unnecessary; and whether he is prepared to allow a return to the 7 p.m. closing hour in the case of these offices?

The ASSISTANT POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Viscount Wolmer)

I am aware of the resolution of the Hull City Council; but according to my information the business done at these three offices is not so small as to justify a departure from the general rule.
