HC Deb 23 March 1926 vol 193 c1009
14. Lieut.-Colonel Sir FREDERICK HALL

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether arrangements can be made to issue periodically a return showing the effect on trade and employment resulting from the steps taken by the Government for the safeguarding of industries?

Sir B. CHADWICK

I regret that, owing to the nature of some of the industries to which my hon. Friend's question relates, it is not at present practicable to give a return of the nature desired, but the matter is under consideration.

Sir F. HALL

Considering that the number of industries that are guarded under the Safeguarding of Industries Act is comparatively small, may I ask, as they cannot supply it now, whether that me Ins that we shall not be able to know what is done with regard to these various industries under the Safeguarding of Industries Act?

Sir B. CHADWICK

The matter is not quite so easy as it looks. It is having the earnest attention of the Department, and that is all I can say about it.
