HC Deb 16 March 1926 vol 193 c241
46. Sir H. CROFT

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the intention of Spain to propose legislation or issue decrees disadvantageous to British coal exports, he will consider similar treatment towards Spanish imports into Great Britain?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. Godfrey Locker-Lampson)

His Majesty's Government are protesting strongly to the Spanish Government against the new decree limiting the consumption of foreign coal. Should this protest prove ineffective, His Majesty's Government will consider whether any further action can he taken.

Sir H. CROFT

In considering this question will my hon. Friend consider a similar situation when the right hon. Gentleman the Member for Carnarvon Boroughs (Mr. Lloyd George) was able to expostulate to such effect that he secured favourable treatment?

Mr. LOCKER-LAMPSON

I think we cannot do better than see what is the result of our representation.
