HC Deb 16 March 1926 vol 193 cc220-1
11. Mr. REMER

asked the Secretary of State for War how many gallons of petrol were purchased by the War Office in 1925; how many gallons were refined by British labour; and how many gallons by foreign labour?

The SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Sir Laming Worthington-Evans)

The estimated requirements of the Department for the current financial year were approximately 1,000,000 gallons. The contracts were placed on the basis that about two-thirds of this quantity would be refined in this country and one-third in foreign countries.

Mr. REMER

Will the right hon. Gentleman see that, as far as possible, the quantity refined by British labour is increased?

Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

I will, but naturally we want to keep open all our sources of supply.
