§ 70. Colonel DAYasked the Postmaster-General whether any tests have been made of automatic letter-stamping machines; and if there is any likelihood of such machines superseding the present form of stamp machine?
§ Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSONI understand the hon. Member to refer to machines actuated, by the insertion of a coin in a slot and impressing a postmark to denote payment of postage. A machine of this kind was tested some years ago with unsatisfactory results. The matter is again under consideration at the present moment, but I am not in position. to make any definite statement.
§ Colonel DAYCan the right hon. Gentleman say when a statement will be made, because I understand that the machine is at present at the Post Office?
§ Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSONI cannot say what progress has been made with the experiment.
