§ 57. Mr. W. BAKERasked the President of the Board of Education whether he is aware that, as a result of Memorandum 44, the local Education Authority of Taunton has decided not to proceed with a proposed new open-air school; and whether, in view of the effects of such a policy, he will consider the possibility of issuing a further Circular?
Duchess of ATHOLLMy right hon. Friend is not aware that the authority have decided not to proceed with a new open-air school in Taunton. In reply to a specific inquiry he informed them that the provision of a new special school appeared to be a matter which could properly be dealt with in their programme; and, of course, if it is included in their programme it will be considered in the usual way.
§ Mr. SOMERVILLEIs it not a fact that there is no check being placed on necessary capital expenditure including the expenditure on necessary new schools?
Duchess of ATHOLLI think my right hon. Friend made the position quite clear in the Debate the other day.
§ Mr. BAKERIs it not remarkable that the Minister should be unaware of the facts in any of these cases?
