HC Deb 15 February 1926 vol 191 c1531
63. Mr. REMER

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether the Government has given any undertaking to the Food Council that legislation will be introduced to force traders to submit their books to the Council?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of TRADE (Sir Burton Chadwick)

The Prime Minister has already informed the House that if at any time the Government are convinced that any form of action to assist the Food Council is necessary, they will take that action, whatever legislation may be involved. No other undertaking of the kind suggested has been given.

Mr. MACLEAN

Does not the hon. Member consider that the work of the Food Council is becoming very much of a farce in that its findings are not becoming operative in the country?

Mr. SPEAKER

That is a matter for debate.
