HC Deb 11 February 1926 vol 191 c1219
37. Brigadier-General BROOKE

asked the Home Secretary why Holland is not being invited to the international conference on hours of labour in industry in view of the fact that, particularly in regard to ship-repairing, the hours of working in Holland are longer than here?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of LABOUR (Mr. Betterton)

I have been asked to reply. The Powers invited to this Conference comprise the three Powers Belgium, France and Germany who attended a previous Conference on the subject held at There in September, 1924, with the addition of Italy, who has conditionally ratified the Washington Hours Convention. The subject concerns all industrial countries, but it is difficult and complicated, and I think that at this stage, at any rate, it would be better not to widen the ambit of the Conference.
