HC Deb 15 December 1926 vol 200 c2933
Mr. THURTLE

(by Private Notice) asked the Prime Minister whether he can state who will be in charge of the India Office in the absence of the Secretary of State for India in Madeira and of the Under-Secretary of State and the Parliamentary Private Secretary in India?

The PRIME MINISTER

The Secretary of State for Scotland (Sir J. Gilmour) will be in charge of the India Office during the short absence of my Noble Friend (the Earl of Birkenhead).

Mr. STEPHEN

May I ask the Prime Minister who will be looking after the affairs of Scotland while the Secretary of State for Scotland is looking after the affairs of India?

The PRIME MINISTER

I do hope that in Scotland they can look after themselves over the New Year.
