Mr. MACQUISTENasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether is aware of the taxation of sporting newspapers in France; and whether, seeing that the practice of betting in Great Britain is fostered by the publication in the Press of the odds and other racing news, he will consider, with a view to the discouragement of the practice of betting as well as the increment of the revenue, the advisability of imposing a tax or one halfpenny a copy on every newspaper which publishes any betting news or other data calculated to assist or foster the practice of betting?
