HC Deb 25 November 1925 vol 188 c1370
61. Mr. HARMSWORTH

asked the Minister of Labour whether, with a view to economy, the salary attached to the office of chief labour adviser to the Ministry will, on the retirement of its present occupant, be reduced from its present amount, seeing that it is larger than the Minister's own salary?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

It is proposed to arrange for the carrying out of the functions hitherto performed by the chief labour adviser by a redistribution of duties among the existing staff of the Department.

Mr. SCRYMGEOUR

Is it not the case that the official in recent years received £500 as advance of salary, and, seeing that he has been condemned by the economy committee, cannot we have this rectified straight away?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

From the way in which the hon. Member has put it, I do not know to what he is referring. If he will communicate with me I will be glad to consider the point.
