HC Deb 25 November 1925 vol 188 c1358
38. Mr. T. WILLIAMS

asked the Minister of Labour how many men, women, boys, and girls are on the unemployed registers at the Employment Exchange, Mexborough; how many are receiving unemployment pay; and how many applications for extended benefits have been rejected during the past three months?

Sir A. STEEL MAITLAND

At 16th November, 1925, there were 457 men, 58 women, 13 boys and 17 girls on the registers of the Mexborough Employment Exchange. Of the total of 545 persons, 525 had current claims to benefit, but I am unable to say how many of these received benefit in that week. The number of applications for extended benefit rejected by the local employment committee during the three months ended 12th October was 28.

Mr. WILLIAMS

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that workers who are working alternate weeks have been deprived of unemployment pay by some regulation, and will the right hon. Gentleman inform the House what that regulation is?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

That does not arise out of the question, but if the hon. Member will put the case to me I will inquire into it.
