HC Deb 25 November 1925 vol 188 cc1357-8
37. Mr. H. WILLIAMS

asked the Minister of Labour the number of registered unemployed on the latest date for which the figures are available who were in receipt of benefit and not in receipt of benefit, respectively?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

At 9th November the number of persons on the registers of Employment Exchanges in Great Britain was l,198,126. Of these 1,040,905, had claims to benefit current at that date, but I am unable to say how many of these were actually in receipt of benefit.

Mr. H. WILLIAMS

Am I correct in assuming that the live register includes a lot of people who for one reason or another are not in receipt of benefit?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

Yes, a very large number.

64. Mr. SANDEMAN

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will con- sider the preparation, for the benefit of Members, of a chart showing the numbers of men unemployed during each of the last five years, distinguishing, if possible, the principal trades?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

I will arrange, as soon as possible, to have a chart showing the course of unemployment in the principal industries prepared for the information of Members of the House.
