HC Deb 19 November 1925 vol 188 cc556-7
20. Sir FRANK MEYER

asked the Home Secretary the number of persons summoned for leaving cars at approved parking places in the Metropolitan area for more than two hours on 14th November; the number of police employed on that date in taking particulars of such cases; and the estimated cost of employing the police for such purpose on that date?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

Three persons have been reported for leaving cars at approved parking places on 14th November for more than two hours, and one person for a similar offence at a parking place where the prescribed limit of one hour was exceeded. None of the four persons has yet been summoned. No police were specially employed for the purpose, and no extra cost was involved.

Sir F. MEYER

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman whether he will be prepared to consider extending the limit of two hours to a longer period after 7 o'clock in the evening, in order that persons driving their own cars may be able to use these parking places when they go to a theatre?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

To meet the case of a visit to the theatre, particularly if preceded by dinner and followed by supper, would involve a somewhat lengthy extension of the period. All I can say is that, if my hon. Friend desires it, I will consult the Ministry of Transport on the matter.

Captain BRASS

May I ask my right hon. Friend whether his Department is responsible for appointing the men who now give out the forma at these parking places?

Mr. SPEAKER

I think notice should be given of that question.
