HC Deb 19 November 1925 vol 188 c574
47. Mr. THURTLE

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the agreement arrived at at Locarno, the Government is prepared to reconsider the question of approving of the construction of a tunnel between this country and France, bearing in mind particularly the amount of employment which this scheme would provide?

The PRIME MINISTER

This project has been repeatedly considered, and as recently as last year my predecessor gave the House a considered statement of the reasons which led him to reject the proposal. Having regard to all the considerations on which this decision was based, I am not prepared to re-open the question.

Mr. THURTLE

In view of the new spirit invoked by the Locarno Treaty, will not the Committee of Imperial Defence reconsider their objections to this scheme?

Mr. SPEAKER

That is not the question on the Paper.
