HC Deb 18 November 1925 vol 188 cc379-80
71. Mr. SANDEMAN

asked the Minister of Labour what is the increase this year, as compared with last, in the number of young persons over the age of 16 seeking employment?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

I am unable to state the number of young persons over the age of 16 seeking employment, but at 2nd November there were on the registers of Employment Exchanges and Juvenile Bureaux in Great Britain 64,933 young persons between the ages of 14 and 18 years; as compared with 66,524 at 3rd November, 1924, a decrease of 1,591.

Mr. T. WILLIAMS

Can the right hon. Gentleman tell the House how many young persons between 14 and 18 are not on the unemployment register this year who would have been on last year?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

If the, hon. Member will see me afterwards I will try to obtain for him that information.

Mr. H. WILLIAMS

Are those figures included in the weekly figures published in the Press as to the total number registered as unemployed?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

Not between 14 and 18, but between 16 and 18 they are included.
