§ 9. Mr. LANSBURYasked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he can give any statistics showing the state of unemployment in India?
§ Earl WINTERTONStatistics of industrial unemployment are not recorded in India, as it is not a, serious problem there. In bad seasons agricultural employment has to be dealt with, and reports of the numbers on relief works and in receipt of gratuitous relief are then sent home. No such reports have been received since last October.
§ Mr. LANSBURYIs it a fact that it is proposed to establish labour exchanges in some industrial centres?
§ Earl WINTERTONLabour matters are largely dealt with by the Provincial Governments. I have not heard of any proposal to establish labour exchanges, though I think, speaking without reference to the facts, that one or two have been established in certain localities recently.
