53. Captain BENNasked the Prime Minister when he proposes to make a statement explaining the policy of the British Government in Egypt?
§ The PRIME MINISTERIn view of the delicate internal situation that has arisen in Egypt, which might be rendered more difficult by any pronouncement by His Majesty's Government, I can at present add nothing to the very complete statement of the policy of His Majesty's Government made by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs on the 15th December.
§ Mr. HARRISHas not the situation materially changed in the meantime, owing to the elections?
§ The PRIME MINISTERI think that at this moment a Debate in this House would only do harm.
