§ 15. Captain BRASSasked the Home Secretary whether he can state the amount of money received from fines inflicted on motorists for exceeding the speed limit in the United Kingdom, during each quarter of the year 1924; and to what purpose these moneys were devoted?
§ Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKSThe amounts received in respect of the particular offence of exceeding the speed limit cannot be stated. Fines inflicted for offences under the Motor Car Acts and the Roads Act are paid into the Motor Tax Account, after deduction of Court and police fees.
§ Captain BRASSWho decides whether a police trap is to be set on a particular piece of road, and will the right hon. Gentleman give instructions to the Metropolitan Police to cease this practice?
§ Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKSThe decision is in the hands of the Commissioner of Police in the Metropolis. I do not think that it would be right for me, while 2449 the law is as it is, to give instructions to the Metropolitan Police to abstain from enforcing it.
§ Captain BRASSWill the right hon. Gentleman bring pressure to bear on the Prime Minister and the Government to alter the law?
