HC Deb 19 March 1925 vol 181 c2448
14. Captain BRASS

asked the Home Secretary the number of licences to drive motor vehicles issued during the year 1924?

The MINISTER of TRANSPORT (Colonel Ashley)

I have been asked to reply. The numbers of driving licences issued during 1924 were approximately as follow:

England and Wales 1,499,000
Scotland 151,000
1,650,000
Captain BRASS

Will the right hon. Gentleman consider the advisability of instituting a test before licences are issued?

Colonel ASHLEY

I do not think that that arises out of the question.
