HC Deb 12 March 1925 vol 181 cc1519-20
99. Captain BENN

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in conversations with the French Government relative to debts, he has raised the question of the expenditure on the French Air Force?

Mr. CHURCHILL

No, Sir. A question of that character would lie beyond the special sphere of a Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Captain BENN

Does the right hon. Gentleman realise that it is very hard that we should be forced to spend money on an Air Force in competition with an Air Force built with money owing to us?

Captain GARRO-JONES

Has the right hon. Gentleman received any reply to his Note to France of three months ago?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I have not received any official reply.

Captain JONES

Has the right hon. Gentleman received any unofficial reply?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I will confine myself exactly to the terms of the answer which I have just given.
