HC Deb 12 March 1925 vol 181 c1516
94. Sir CHARLES OMAN

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the Standing Committee, appointed to act in an advisory capacity to the Chancellor of the Exchequer with regard to the artistic side of the currency of the Realm, has ever expressed to him or to his predecessors its dissatisfaction with the present designs of the silver coinage and suggested changes; and whether such changes, by means of the procuring of an Order in Council, have ever been taken into consideration?

Mr. CHURCHILL

The Advisory Committee some time ago expressed a dislike on artistic grounds for certain of the existing designs. But they are not yet in a position to make positive recommendations for new designs.

Sir C. OMAN

Does this declaration mean that the Advisory Committee are extremely discontented with the present designs?

Mr. JOHNSTON

May I ask whether, in the opinion of the Chancellor of the Exchequer, there is not a great deal more dissatisfaction with the present distribution of such coinage as now exists?

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Did the right hon. Gentleman submit the medal which he received to this Committee?
