HC Deb 29 June 1925 vol 185 c1993
25. Mr. SANDEMAN

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what was the total quantity of American type of cotton exported from Nigeria in the seasons 1923–24 and 1924–25 respectively; what percentage of the 1924–25 crop was marked as first-grade lint; and what was the average Liverpool price obtained?

Mr. AMERY

In 1923–24 the total number of bales of 400 lbs. weight of lint of American type purchased for export was 15,704; in 1924–25 it is estimated at a minimum of 26,000 bales. About 94 per cent. was classed as first grade in the colony. The average price in Liverpool in the 1924–25 season has been 13725 pence per pound of lint.
