HC Deb 29 July 1925 vol 187 cc408-9
Rear-Admiral BEAMISH

(by Private Notice) asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been drawn to the apparent discrepancy between the statement he made on the 23rd instant that an annual construction of nine destroyers will be required beginning in the financial year 1926–27, and the table in Command Paper 2476, wherein under the heading 1926–27 no destroyers are to be constructed?

Mr. A. CHAMBERLAIN

The White Paper embodies correctly the Cabinet decision upon the naval programme. The summary of this programme, which was read to the House on Thursday last, should be amended accordingly.

Rear-Admiral BEAMISH

Does not the right hon. Gentleman consider, in view of the attacks that have been made on the Admiralty for bellicosity and wastefulness, as the White Paper is signed by the First Lord it shows that they have been doing their best to reduce the commitments of the country?

Mr. SPEAKER

Testimonials will come later on.
