HC Deb 29 July 1925 vol 187 c406
7. Lieut. - Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has received any representations from, or on behalf of, the United States Government on the question of restrictions in the export of crude rubber?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

His Majesty's Government have received representations from the United States Government through the United States Ambassador.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Can the right hon. Gentleman give us the nature of the representations, and can he say whether any reply was made to them?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I do not think I ought to state the contents of the representations at this stage. The reply that I made was that I would take them into most serious and immediate consideration.

60. Mr. BROAD

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware of the growing indignation at the rising prices of rubber and the fear of injury to those trades and industries using this commodity, with resulting increase of unemployment; and whether, seeing that this position is largely due to the operation of the restriction of the export of lubber from Ceylon under the Stevenson ordnance producing a shortage in the market, he is prepared to revise or rescind this ordinance in the interest of trade and commerce, and so put an end to the present high prices?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. Ormsby-Gore)

My right hon. Friend would refer the hon. Member to the Statement which he made in this House on Monday last.
