HC Deb 29 July 1925 vol 187 cc404-5
10. Captain BRASS

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of the present disturbances in China and of the general unrest amongst the student classes in that country, His Majesty's Government will consider the advisability of not using the Boxer indemnity funds for educational purposes in China at the present time?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

The investigation of the best uses to which the Boxer Indemnity funds can be put is bound to take a considerable time, and I trust that long before this investigation is over the present troubles in China will have ceased. I may add that I believe that it is the intention of the Committee that some of its members should go out to China and confer with Chinese on the spot as to the best uses to which the funds can be applied.
