HC Deb 23 July 1925 vol 186 c2384
6. Mr. ROBINSON

asked the Minister of Pensions whether he has received any complaints about the quantity and quality of the food supplied to pensioners suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis who are patients in the Barrow-moor Hall Sanatorium, Great Barrow; whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that, though there is a poultry farm attached to the institution with many hundred head of poultry, the patients are supplied with shop eggs; that margarine is supplied in lieu of butter, and that only one pint of milk is allowed per day; and whether, seeing that the Ministry of Pensions pay for pensioner patients, he will take steps to ensure that pensioners suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis receive the best food it is possible to obtain?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I have been asked to reply. No complaints as to the quantity or quality of the food supplied to patients in this sanatorium have been received either by my right hon. Friend or myself. I am advised that the patients are supplied with eggs from the poultry farm, and not with shop eggs; that a brand of margarine containing butter is in use for both patients and staff; and that there is no limitation in the issue of milk consistently with the medical requirements of the patients.
