HC Deb 22 July 1925 vol 186 cc2209-10
81. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department who it is proposed should succeed Mr. Monck-Mason as vice-consul at Cetinje, Montenegro?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. Ronald McNeill)

Mr. Tottenham-Smith, at present vice-consul at Constanza, Roumania, is now on his way to Cetinje to relieve Mr. Monck-Mason.

Mr. PONSONBY

Was Mr. Monck-Mason's removal from Cetinje due to representations from the Government at Belgrade?

Mr. McNEILL

I am surprised at my hon. Friend putting that question. He will agree with me that to give public reasons for appointments in the diplomatic and consular service would be very undesirable.

Mr. RILEY

Is the hon. Gentleman aware of the fact that there was considerable feeling in Cetinje in regard to this matter?

Mr. McNEILL

Whether I am aware of that fact or not, I do not think it alters the situation.
