HC Deb 22 July 1925 vol 186 cc2183-4
22. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty what will be the estimated total cost of each of the new cruisers of the "Kent" class now building, including the cost of armament, armour, ammunition and stores; and what is the estimated annual cost of upkeep and maintenance of each of these vessels in full commission?

Mr. DAVIDSON

I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the replies of the 11th and 25th February to the hon. Members for Shoreditch and Leith respectively (OFFICIAL REPORT, 11th February, columns 174–5, and 25th February, column 1952).

Lieut. - Commander KENWORTHY

Those replies did not give the figures. Is it not essential that the House should be informed as to the actual cost of the ships?

Mr. DAVIDSON

The cost was estimated to be from £1,500,000 to £2,000,000.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Does that include the armaments and stores?

Mr. DAVIDSON

That is the complete cost.
