HC Deb 20 July 1925 vol 186 cc1806-7
18. Mr. J. BECKETT

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he has received reports of a speech delivered by the Governor of Hong Kong to the Hong Kong Legislative Council dealing with preparations for coping with possible disaffection, and whether he can make any statement on the matter?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

No, Sir, I have no official information as to the terms of the speech, and I have nothing to add to the answer I have just given to No. 17.

Mr. BECKETT

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that in every industrial dispute allegations of intimidation are made, and where is this going to end?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

There is no industrial dispute. This is a case of people coming in from outside, some of them armed, and endeavouring to interfere with innocent citizens who are trying to pursue their lawful occupations.

Mr. BECKETT
