Mr. WOODThe average, gross direct subsidy paid to the company per ton of sugar manufactured last year was £19 9s. 4d. Deducting the Excise Duty and allowing for the difference between the Customs Duty and Excise Duty, the total net direct and indirect subsidy per ton of sugar was on the average £11 14s.
