HC Deb 16 July 1925 vol 186 c1527
47. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Prime Minister whether he has considered farther the question of inviting the principal naval powers to a further conference on naval armaments: and whether any communication has been received from, or sent to, the President of the. United States of America on this subject?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. Ronald McNeill)

As regards the first part of the question I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the statement made in this House by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs on the 34th June, that if the question of a further conference on naval disarmament was to be treated separately from that fo a conference on land disarmament it would seem best that the initiative should come from the Power which summoned the Washington Conference. The answer with regard to the second part of the question is in the negative.
