HC Deb 16 July 1925 vol 186 cc1530-1
56. Major KINDERSLEY

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, with a view to safeguarding the interests of British nationals in the Anglo-German Mixed Arbitral Tribunals in Berlin and London and seeing that the German Government through its officials watches the interests of German nationals in these tribunals, he will make similar arrangements for British nationals?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

My hon. and gallant Friend appears to be under a misapprehension. The British Government Agents are always in attendance at the sittings of the Anglo-German Mixed Arbitral Tribunal in London, in order that they may represent the views of the British Clearing Office and safeguard the interests of British nationals. There is no division of the tribunal sitting in Berlin.

Major KINDERSLEY

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that great dissatisfaction has been caused by certain recent decisions of these tribunals, which appear to be based upon no established rule of English law?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

I really am not in a position to criticise the decisions of an international Court established under the Peace Treaty.
