HC Deb 15 July 1925 vol 186 cc1288-9
81. Mr. THURTLE

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has any information regarding the case of a Sudanese boy who was, on 18th March of this year, in a town in the Southern Sudan, lashed until he fell senseless and left lying in this state for the rest of the day for the alleged offence of being in unlawful possession of three packets of cigarettes; and what action, if any, he proposes to take In the matter?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I would direct the hon. Member's attention to the fact that questions regarding the Sudan should be addressed to the Foreign Secretary, and not to the Colonial Secretary. I would refer the hon. Member to the written answer given by my right hon. Friend the Colonial Secretary to a similar question put by the hon. Member for Mansfield (Mr. Varley), which appears in column 878 of the OFFICIAL REPORT under the date of 13th July.
